councillors have also raised questions on the chemical used to carry out fogging and even alleged that the concerned MC staff did not carry out fogging in many vulnerable areas including Kumbra village Phase 5 Phase 4 Shahi Majra and Phase 2 Civil Surgeon Rita Bhardwaj told Chandigarh Newsline that till Thursday a total of 1803 cases of dengue were reported while three deaths have been reported in the district When told that six persons had succumbed to dengue she said officially only three deaths had been reported so far When asked about the large number of dengue cases in the city and whether the department was making sincere efforts to combat the disease Bhardwaj said the number was high as they have been admitting people with dengue-like symptoms Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline C L Garg President of Confederation of Residents Welfare Associations of the city comprising 64 RWAs said he had asked the civil surgeon to visit Phase 5 a few days back or send anyone to submit a detailed report of the dengue-prone areas But when asked as to why the MC had sought the report now the mayor said they were reviewing the cases and sent their teams to carry out fogging in the affected areas DC Gurpreet Kaur Sapra on the other hand said she had held a meeting with the civil surgeon and asked her to take necessary action When asked why the administration had failed so miserably she said they were making every possible effort to contain the spread of dengue Sapra however said that they felt that the number of dengue-testing centres should be increased Kumbra village
