Advanced Greek School in NSW
Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram The intention for the opening of an Advanced Greek School for newly arrived immigrants was announced this week by the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales (GOCNSW) in Sydney, in an attempt to support the immigrants who have Greek as their mother language. With the sole purpose of teaching the Greek language at an advanced stage for students whose first language is Greek, the GOCNSW announced that the lessons of Greek language will be in accordance with the approved program of the Ministry of Education of Greece. The staffing of the new Greek school will be mainly by teachers from Greece. The teachers will use the textbooks currently in use in schools in Greece, in order for kids to maintain and to extend their level of Greek. Responding to the needs of the new community members to maintain the level of Greek their children use, the GOCNSW is embarking on the new education initiative, following the example of the GOCMV that has seen two campuses kick off early this month offering Advanced Greek program to over 70 newly arrived students. The announcement of the intention of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW to establish an Advanced Greek Language School is to be followed within the very near future with the release of a related questionnaire, aiming at gathering information about the number and the location of the newly arrived families from Greece that might be interested in the new school.
