Tony Abbott guest of honour
Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram Federal Opposition leader Tony Abbott will be the guest of honour at the 2011 Kytherian Association of Australia Debutante Ball. Both side of politics will be represented at the ball, which will be held on Saturday 18 June. The ball’s aim is to showcase Kytherian youth and also raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Australia.“The ball itself started as a charity and debutante ball in the early 1950s,” George Poulos, Kytherian Association of Australia, told Neos Kosmos. “We have about nine or ten young ladies who come out in the old fashioned English way at 16 years of age. We have quite a large gathering and as Tony Abbott says, it’s a right of passage. It’s a chance for Kytherian youth to come out.” Previous years they’ve had the Governor General attend and Poulos said “if we can attract someone of this calibre (the Federal opposition leader), I think it’s validation of what Greeks and Kytherians have achieved in Australia”.
