Over 75 per cent of Timorese people registered for elections so far

As of yesterday, more than 615,000 people – or 76 per cent of the population – have been registered by UNTAET’s Civil Registration Unit.Only three districts have registered less than 70 per cent of its population, while five districts had registered over 80 per cent and one district had registered 91 per cent of its population, the UN mission said in a statement issued in the capital, Dili, where voter registration stands at 73 per cent.On polling day, the registered voters will elect 88 representatives from a dozen political parties to form a Constituent Assembly that will draft East Timor’s first constitution.
