Forty-one goals scored in Smalta Girls 11 and under football tournament
AS the Smalta Girls 11 and under football tournament continued yesterday, there were some 41 goals scored in the 16 games played.The first game of the day featured St Stephens versus St Margarets with St Stephens winning via a walkover.In the second game,Tucville sneaked past Redeemer 3-2. For Tucville,it was two own goals and one by Sheri ah Headley that saw them take the one goal margin over Redeemer. Kelisha Patterson and Rayna Peters scored for the losers.West Ruimveldt demolished Smith Memorial 6-1 with Gabriella McGarrell scoring five of the goals while Priscilla Edwards scored one. Aaliyah Beverney was the only scorer for Smith Memorial.Game 4 saw North Georgetown defeating Winfer Gardens 3-0 with Alicia James bagging a hat-trick in the process. Amana McPherson also scored a hat-trick when her St Agnes side defeated St Gabriel’s 5-0. Shequeena Smith and Divine Williams were the other scorers in the game.In game 6,Enterprise held off F.E Pollard 2-1 after Emmaria Mercier scored in the 12th minute. Cedranessa Benn equalized in the 13th while Tanya Mohabir scored the decisive goal one minute after her in the 14th.The seventh game finished early as St Angela’s was also awarded a walkover from Stella Maris. In the final game of round one. South Ruimveldt fell to St Pius 3-2. Karen Jupiter netted two goals and Kerry Boyce scored 1 for the victors. Raven Jacobs was the lone scorer for the St Pius side.In the second round of games, Redeemer and F.E Pollard were the first teams to win as they were awarded walkovers. St Stephen’s went on to knock off Tucville 3-0 with Kezia Parkinson bagging two goals and Odelli Straughn scoring one.North Georgetown and West Ruimveldt played to a 1-1 tie.Alicia James scored in the 20th minute for North Georgetown.However, Gabriella McGarrell equalized in the 24th minute for West.St Angela’s held Enterprise to a 0-0 draw.However, fans were not left short on entertainment as St Pius trounced St Gabriels -7-0. Kerry Boyce and Donna Lowe both recorded hat-tricks with Karen Jupiter scoring the other goal.St Agnes practically defeated themselves with an own-goal in the 21st minute to give South Ruimveldt a 1-0 win .The Smith Memorial versus Winfer Gardens match was ruled a no contest. Games continue today from 10:00hrs at the Ministry of Education ground.
