View post tag: USS Coronado Authorities View post tag: LCS March 29, 2017 The crew of the U.S. Navy’s Singapore-based littoral combat ship USS Coronado will be welcoming relief in April after spending nine months embarked on the ship.Littoral Combat Ship Crew 203 departed San Diego March 27 and will relieve Crew 204 in mid-April.Crew 204, the original Coronado crew which deployed with the ship in June last year was supposed to return home in October. Recent changes to the LCS training and certification program and a lack of trimaran LCS hulls for Crew 203 pre-deployment work up resulted in Crew 204 staying in Singapore almost half a year longer than planned, according to Navy Times.Prior to deploying, Crew 203 completed multiple off-hull simulator and on-hull underway opportunities to include engineering, aviation launch and recovery certifications; Integrated Ship Aviation Team Training (ISATT) and Mission Package workups.“The training and certification process is extensive and necessary to ensure our crews are fully prepared for the demands of deployment,” said Capt. Jordy M. Harrison, commander, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron ONE.“I am proud of Crew 203 and our entire LCS team for their dedication and hard work to implement recent changes to LCS on-hull training opportunities following last September’s LCS Review. These changes in the LCS program will ensure we provide the Fleet with crews trained and prepared to execute the mission sets,” said Harrison.Forward-deployed Coronado is outfitted with the surface warfare (SUW) mission package, comprised of two 11-meter rigid hull inflatable boats; two visit, board, search, and seizure boarding teams; two 30mm machine guns; two MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned aerial vehicles, and an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter.Coronado arrived in Singapore in October 2016, marking the first deployment of an Independence-variant littoral combat ship to Southeast Asia and the third overall LCS deployment following USS Freedom (LCS 1) and USS Fort Worth (LCS 3). Operating from Singapore, Coronado has participated in multiple exercises with allied and partner navies across the region during her deployment. To date, Coronado has completed a passing exercise with the Royal Brunei Navy, and conducted counter piracy operations and flight operations in the South China Sea. Additionally, Coronado was the first LCS to launch a Harpoon anti-ship missile during the 2016 Rim of the Pacific exercise. The New England Patriots have made the decision to release wide receiver Antonio Brown after a second woman came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the football player. The Patriots issued a statement on their decision Friday afternoon saying:“The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown. We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel the that it is best to move in a different direction at this time.”The decision also came moments after Patriots head coach Bill Belichick shut down a press conference that morning due to the amount of questions he was being asked about the WR.The Patriots signed Brown on September 7th to a 1-year $15 million contract with a $9 signing bonus following his cut from the Oakland Raiders.Days after Brown signed his deal with the Patriots, the first accuser, Britney Taylor, filed a lawsuit against Brown accusing him of forcible rape in 2018 and two other allegations of sexual assault in 2017.Brown has denied the allegations and vowed to explore his legal options. According to TMZ, Brown was not arrested or charged with any crimes in the case and Taylor was said to have never gone to the police.Earlier this week a second woman came forward and accused Brown of sexual misconduct. While it is unclear if there is any evidence of the sexual misconduct, the NFL did receive text messages from the woman’s attorney where Brown reportedly sent her text directing others to look into the woman’s family and another text containing pictures of the woman’s children. The NFL has since launched an investigation into the messages.
Governor DeSantis made it official, Palm Beach County will begin a five-step entry into Phase Two reopening on Tuesday. Theaters and bars inside restaurants will be able to open first. In person learning in schools will follow after the school board, county commission or the Governor decides when to reopen brick and mortar schools…could take a week or more.Despite Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Donald Fennoy objection, Palm Beach County commissioners agreed Tuesday to ask Gov. Ron DeSantis to move the county to Phase 2 by Tuesday, September 8th. The governor approved the measure.Commissioners also recommended Tuesday that the school board vote to postpone in-person classes on its own, a suggestion that the school board’s chairman dismissed as politically unfeasible. In doing so, the school board gave control of school-reopening to the county commission. If the school board wants to delay classes further without risking state penalties, it may have to place its hopes in PBC Mayor Dave Kerner once again.Kerner says he will make the pitch on the school board’s behalf and ask Governor DeSantis personally if he would let the county’s schools open a week later than September 14th.“I said, ‘Let me see if I can make that happen,’ ” Kerner recalled telling Fennoy. “I’m trying to get the best of both worlds here.”
